USDA Commodities Distribution

Swain County Department of Social Services is one of the few remaining DSS’s that conducts a Commodity Distribution quarterly. This program distributes surplus USDA foods to individuals and families who qualify. The income guidelines are more generous than those of the Food Stamp Program allowing us to serve a broader population. We conduct these distributions on a Wednesday each quarter with volunteers from DSS and the community. We are grateful to be able to provide this service to our community.
